This is something I've been doing for my VFTs prior to winter. It's certainly not essential but I find the giving them a tidy up between now and when winter really sets in can make a difference to mould & fungus growth.
Here's a few more I did this afternoon.
Removing the dead material enables better air flow around the crown of the plant and also allows for a check of the plants health. It's also worth it to see if the plant is going to need a repot next spring!
Others like to leave the dead material on the plant as a protective layer against frosts.
I'm not as concerned about that.
I've been doing for the last few years and haven't really encountered problems yet.
As always my conditions are going to be different to yours and results will always vary.
Over the next few weeks I begin trimming off dead leaves from my VFTs. With an apparent wet winter ahead any dead material provides ideal conditions for mould and fungus to form. Clearing the old leaves gives more airflow around the plant which I find beneficial.

This video from July 2021 shows how my Venus flytraps look in the freezing Canberra winters.
It often gets well below zero. The water trays (and the VFTs) will freeze but this is nothing to panic about.
So long as the day time temperature rises above zero the plants will be just fine.
I find a winter dormancy period for them actually helps.
I get beautiful new growth the following spring and summer.
